I was not aware that present-day Hong Kong, and pre-1913 America, were uncilivized. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
- phillmv 15y agoHong Kong still has property taxes, payroll taxes, corporate income taxes and gambling taxes among a few others. Pre-1913 America had a radically different view on what kinds of services the government should provide. Most of the US budget is split between Social Security, Medicare/aid and the Military.
