- yrgulation 5y agoI dont think nato has deployed such advanced sensors to east europe. At the end of the day its those countries responsibility to be the first line of defence, and i am afraid their military looks much like russia’s, but western equipment. If i am wrong, which I hope i am, then it would be clever to not shoot it down as to not reveal turret locations.
- rasz 5y agoThere have been AVACS flying along Polish Ukr border for the last two weeks https://mobile.twitter.com/hashtag/awacs https://mobile.twitter.com/hashtag/awacs
- yrgulation 5y agoThanks for the link - turns out i was, thankfully, wrong. In romania they’ve also been monitoring the drone for about 3 minutes - 23.23 - 23.36 EET on the 10th of march. It then left its airspace for Hungary. The ministry of defence claims that due to a low altitude, weather and landscape they couldnt perform more accurate identification. At least thats what i am reading in romanian language media.
- kavalg 5y agoThat would be a very risky maneuver, given that NATO didn't know the payload in advance. And if it did, them risking the lives of EU citizens in order not to reveal air defense capabilities is a reckless move that I, as a EU citizen don't like at all. Also, for the the "casual" EU observer this situation raises questions about the ability of NATO's air defenses. On the other hand, if it was a Russian "pentest", why would Russians put a bomb in it? That would only draw NATO even more into the conflict, of which the only one to take advantage will be Ukrainian forces. I don't dare to even think that this was a provocation from Ukraine, but I am really in doubt now on what actually happened.
