My point is that generally speaking, people are very one-sided on matters like this. When employee compensation grew enormously (probably 2x or more) over the last 10 years, no one complained that it was too high compared to inflation. Now inflation is increasing, and people complain that their yearly raise didn't keep up. This in a field where even average engineer have comps of many hundreds of thousands a year.
