All cars have tires, brakes, and c/v joints. If you don’t service them, you won’t pass inspection.
Use the dealer while the car is under warranty. Then find the best non-chain local shops.
If you are watching dollars, you will buy a four year old vehicle and drive it for four years. Then sell it.
- giantg2 5y agoIs there really anything to service on CV joints? Usually you just inspect them and replace them if they're bad, right?
- wrycoder 5y agoThe boots can crack and let in dirt and salt spray. To avoid premature replacement, watch for that and replace the boot with an aftermarket “split” boot, which can be done without removing the c/v. I think most shops will just replace the joint when they see a torn boot, however.
- giantg2 5y agoYeah, true. I guess when I hear service I mostly think of stuff that gets regular attention ever x thousand miles - grease the joints, fluid changes, pads/rotors, etc.
