I think once the Russian air force is actually pulled into the war it's going to be significantly less effective. And that's what Ukraine is really worried about. I'm not 100% sure on why Russia is holding back their air force in this conflict but once it's engaged it's going to go very poorly for the Ukraine soldiers if they don't have a way to assert control of their airspace.
