This is.... questionable at best.
Picking fights to prevent diversity? This really feels like they're trying to intentionally prevent minority and the underrepresented from joining this college.
Am I reading it wrong?
- stolenmerch 5y agoI'm not seeing where he calls for picking fights to prevent diversity. The example for Berserker Strategy was to consciously invite controversial speakers to campus.
- ehutch79 5y agoLiterally says: """Berserker Strategy: Pick fights. Literally pick the fights - """ in the name of being 'anti-woke'.
- savanaly 5y agoYes. As in actively inviting a speaker that will be protested (picking a fight) vs simply defending their right to give a talk once someone else has invited them (reacting to a fight).
- HarryHirsch 5y agoThe gulf between wokeness and supporting disadvantaged groups couldn't be larger. You do get a whole new appreciation for Matthew 23, where Jesus, himself a Pharisee, tears into his fellow Pharisees who lost sight of the goal of the movement, which sought to promote a form of spirituality accessible for everyone but then lost sight of that goal. It starts with "do as they say, not as they do" and gets better with every sentence. The "land acknowledgements" so popular at woke places do remind of the "whitewashed monuments".
- ThrowawayR2 5y ago> "Picking fights to prevent diversity? This really feels like they're trying to intentionally prevent minority and the underrepresented from joining this college." You are indeed reading it wrong. The author is suggesting picking fights to encourage wokism to display its nature, not preventing diversity. The author also says "For me, seeing actual injustices against minorities makes me more woke, and seeing woke people be stupid and unnecessarily combative makes me less woke." I think that sums up the attitude of a lot of people and, regrettably, the latter is winning out.
