are there any web browsers out there which are created from scratch? ie not based on chromium, or webkit but every single component used in the browser was created for it?
Bonus points, if that browser is actually usable and not just a toy/academic exercise.
- mech422 5y agoFirefox? Konqueror seems to still support the KHTML renderer - not sure how well that works though. Opera moved to webkit. I used to use lynx/links on the terminal.
- pantulis 5y agoBut these are already existing engines. I believe the engineering effort to build a rendering engine from scratch makes it very unlikely we will see another engine.
- freediver 5y agoThis one is probably the closest you can get outside of mainstream web rendering engine choices: https://www.ekioh.com https://www.ekioh.com (it does borrow a javascript library though, so not completely from scratch)
