It helps if there is a mob of other sadistic bullies egging each other on, reassuring each other that it's fine. That this is justice. You know there are other people who "deserve to be exposed and humiliated" even more than elderly marathon cheaters, right? Putin, for instance? Taliban? But they are out of reach, and too powerful.
