Washington Post and NPR Ignore the Rural Backlash Against Renewables
- zeristor 5y agoSkimmed the article, so no sign of a “rural backlash” in it. Click bait
- jfengel 5y agoI've seen that "rural backlash", in the form of signs protesting solar panels being installed on what used to be farmland. I've seen no indication that it's significant or worth mentioning. The signs mostly show up in places that are generally hostile to any kind of change. The US is not starving for family farms, which is why those farmers are selling out. (The agribusiness system is badly tilted to favor huge monocultures, which is bad for a lot of reasons, but solar farms are a consequence, not a cause.) I don't see any reason why it should be national news. It's a local fight. Organizations like quillette get angry whenever anything not about them drives them off the front page. So it is a real thing, and yet TFA is the usual nonsense whining.
