Running Windows on my laptop I got really confused with Windows docker, docker desktop, wsl docker, docker in a Linux VM. In the end I stuck with WSL Docker as it was the closest to Linux while still native, but its a mess.
- jjeaff 5y agoWindows docker allows you to run windows in a docker container. Docker desktop is just the windows interface and GUI for docker. Docker in a VM is usually a stop gap for windows systems that can't run Linux in hyper-v. Docker in WSL simply runs the docker containers in WSL rather than in hyper-v or a VM.
- mccorrinall 5y agoDocker in WSL does run a hyper-v VM.
- jjeaff 5y agoI don't believe that is the case. Docker in hyper-v is deprecated and I'm running docker in WSL right now and nothing is showing as running in the hyper-v console.
