Zelensky: “No Longer Pursuing NATO Membership, Open to Compromise on DNR/LNR”
- rad_gruchalski 5y agoWell, apparently he said: > I have cooled down regarding this question a long time ago after we understood that... Nato is not prepared to accept Ukraine, So no, he didn’t say he will not pursue NATO membership.
- deutschew 5y agoLiterally the article stats out with: President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is no longer pressing for Nato membership for Ukraine, a delicate issue that was one of Russia's stated reasons for invading its pro-Western neighbour.
- rad_gruchalski 5y agoWhat the article says, is the narrative. What Zelensky said: > Regarding NATO, I have cooled down regarding this question long ago after we understood that NATO is not prepared to accept Ukraine, > The alliance is afraid of controversial things and confrontation with Russia. https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraines-zelensky-says-he-has-cooled-on-joining-nato-2022-3?amp https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraines-zelensky-says-he-ha... No, he didn’t say what the narrative from that source claims.
- deutschew 5y ago?
- rad_gruchalski 5y agoWhat’s so difficult to understand? > Regarding NATO, I have cooled down regarding this question long ago after we understood that NATO is not prepared to accept Ukraine, > The alliance is afraid of controversial things and confrontation with Russia. Doesn’t sound like > no longer pressing for Nato membership for Ukraine That’s the narrative from whomever published that article. I really don’t know how to write it down clearer for you. He said that he understood that nato is not ready to accept Ukraine, he didn’t say that he’s no longer pressing. Regarding two separatist regions. There is no nod to anything. He said „I’m opened for discussion”. He didn’t say „I agree”.
- deutschew 5y agojust to be clear, you understand that he will not ask to join the NATO anymore and NATO will not allow Ukraine to join it?
- rad_gruchalski 5y agoIs that what he said or is it what you want to hear?
- deutschew 5y agothe former
- rad_gruchalski 5y agoDo you have a source backing your claim?
- deutschew 5y agoPresident Volodymyr Zelensky said he is no longer pressing for Nato membership for Ukraine, a delicate issue that was one of Russia's stated reasons for invading its pro-Western neighbour.
- rad_gruchalski 5y agoIt’s not a quote from Zelensky. Look, you are spreading misinformation. You have opened an account two days ago and comment only on the conflict related stuff. I think I know what your angle is.
- deutschew 5y agoYou are trying to twist facts into narrative that you are comfortable with. https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/national/uk-today/19972794.boris-johnson-ukraine-no-serious-prospect-nato-membership-near-future/ https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/national/uk-today/199727... NATO already made it clear Ukraine has no future and Zelensky is set to negotiate on Donbass today. Emotion clouds your assessment of reality. I get you are upset but engaging me in an endless circular argument because you can't accept Zelensky's own words is not going to change the situation. Sure, go ahead and accuse me of being a pro-Russian troll, for literally saying facts, that NATO will not allow Ukraine in.

- david927 5y agoIt's running on France24 now too: https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20220308-in-nod-to-russia-ukraine-says-no-longer-insisting-on-nato-membership?ref=tw https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20220308-in-nod-to-rus... I think it explains why the markets flipped so hard
- deutschew 5y agoWhat chart are you seeing?
- readonthegoapp 5y agoI was about to say, "How is this not international news on every channel??" anyways, AFP is the wire service -- internet says it is third biggest after AP and Reuters. his comments def step down from his Nato demand, if it ever was an actual demand, and still leaves plenty of wiggle room for him to promise Russia whatever and then go back on his word -- maybe become a defacto member of Nato without actually making it official? US/Nato could continue to pump all manner of weapons systems into what's left of Ukraine, then try to take back over the west at the right moment. the US goal is to just make sure we don't have any constraints put on us, which will have been accomplished, assuming the world still exists when this is all done. if he was so ready to fold, why did he feel the need to torture and kill and make suffer so many people -- Ukrainian, Russian, and others? was that the deal he had with the US? now the US is allowing him to half-renounce his Nato intention just to help keep him in power? because finding a new servant would be tough?
