I've always preferred to build my own computers. It's fun, and you can customize, and with few exceptions, it meant better performance/acoustics/thermals than what you could buy directly from PC manufacturers. Now though we're at a place where nothing you build yourself with off the shelf parts can come close to what Apple is doing. It's cool for the industry, and incredible how compact and efficient Apple's designs allow their systems to be, but it's also a little sad the way the industry is going. Intel and AMD likely won't be able to catch up. Maybe Qualcomm does with Nuvia, but they'll just take the same integrated approach.
