United Nations advises staff against using ‘war’ or ‘invasion’ regarding Ukraine
- NoPie 5y agoI understand the rule not to add Ukraine flag to the social media profiles because they need to show that they are unbiased. But to modify the language to suit Russia is no longer a neutrality but supporting an aggressor.
- olliej 5y agoRussia's actions are an invasion, and they have started a war. By forbidding the use of that language the UN is not being impartial. It means they're explicitly requiring people to communicate about Russia's invasion in a way that supports Russia's claims that they aren't invading. But this is the same UN that has multiple countries where women have minimal rights on it's council for women's rights, has countries that punish being non-straight with death on their human rights councils, etc
- hogrider 5y agoThis is why the UN is useless. They can't stop genocide, ok they might not be the world police but if they are not willing to call a war what it is what the point of them? They can't keep peace among members like this.
