Tech and War
- jleyank 5y agoYeah, but Trump was the symptom not the disease. There have been various examples in the us and Europe (and elsewhere I guess) where “rational” actions have been replaced by a groundswell of “irrational” ones. And the decline of civility, “he says what I lack the courage to say” started before 2016.
- h2odragon 5y agoFrom what principles does the non-government censorship arise? The same principles held by the rest of society, that "we don't bargain with bullies", or is it more "we don't go against the Approved Narrative?" Many companies wouldn't hire or continue to employ the openly homosexual, and were above board and open about it as a policy. Today they've changed their minds, about speaking about it if nothing else. Was the change a reflection of social enlightenment, or just peer pressure? I'd be happy support companies taking these actions if they were acting from principles I shared. More often I see things I could agree with being done for the wrong reasons, making them much more fearsome warnings of the consequences that will befall me should i admit to deviating from some unwritten "norms".
