You can't avoid WWIII against a belligerent nation such as Russia, you might delay it, let Russia invade Ukraine, Georgia, and what not for the exact same unhinged reasons, then what? When they invade Latvia suddenly Latvia "isn't worth it"? When they invade Finland suddenly Finland "isn't worth it"? what nation is? It's just the Anschluss, the Soviet version. World War III has already started.
- rnk 5y agoThere are two different categories of nations, those in the EU or NATO and everyone else (the EU has similar mutual defense claims as NATO I recently learned, but the US isn't in the EU pact afakt). If you aren't in nato, then unless you have mutual defense treaties with big powerful countries, you aren't that protected. The US and SK have that. Georgia isn't in NATAO, doens't have nukes, they are pretty unprotected. Denmark is another country that apparently isn't in the eu defense pact, but guess what, they are going to vote and almost certainly join - https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/denmark-hold-referendum-joining-eus-common-defense-83285345 https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/denmark-hold-.... But interestingly, Denmark is in NATO.

- eveningcoffee 5y agoThe question becomes - do we accept the genocide right next to our borders? For how long can we tolerate it? Is there certain line when it is crossed, we must act? When crossing this line is highly probable, shouldn't we act right now when more can be saved?
