Nice. Let's see if I can restate this well enough to ward off further condescension from you:
Would you similarly be up in arms over the external JS were the site embedding a YouTube video? It also requires JS – as does most (all?) major video hosting platforms.
- rhizome 5y agoFor all of its faults, YT is a known quantity.
- IncRnd 5y agoJS is not required to load a video over the Internet. When a CDN (or 2nd origin) without the modern proper CORS headers is used, you are forcing your code to use JS or same-origin resources. Access-Control-Allow-Origin is the solution designed into browsers for this. That means that the Youtube CDN doesn't work with modern CORS for HTML video loading of resources by offsite webpages. Other major, more modern CDNs implement this.
- lelandfe 5y agoI've been trying to show that your stance is at odds with how the majority of the web consumes videos – disable Javascript and attempt to load a video from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Streamable, or any other major video hosting platform. I'm not clear why you feel CORS factors into this.
