A Young Couple Failed to Launder Billions of Dollars in Stolen Bitcoin
- paulpauper 5y agoThere are still 25,000 BTC unaccounted for which no one is talking about. Even if they are sentenced to 10 years for laundering (likely only serve 7 at min security camp) they will still have at least $1 billion at today's prices. Not bad. They are damn lucky to not be charged with wire fraud for actually doing the hack. Otherwise, they could be looking at life for multiple charges. The irony is that the charge for defrauding the US govt of taxes, which carries a 5 year max sentence, is just 1/4 of a wire fraud charge for defrauding a company or individual. Somehow the later is viewed as 4x more severe or bad than defrauding the all-mighty federal government. They are making it sound like they are idiots who got beat by the system. They stand to still walk away with $1 billion.
