Interesting move... unpopular opinion here, sometimes I wish some youtube channels would pivot to audio. A lots of them are interesting, but I simply can't make time to watch them. However, I do have some spare time in my comute for audio form content.
- avs733 5y agothe amount of youtube I watch minimized is really amazing. If they had an audio only option that I could listen to while I run I would actually consume more of their content...you could even feed me audio specific ads.
- xmprt 5y agoYouTube premium supports background playback. Or if you have an Android phone, you can try YouTube Vanced.

- mackrevinack 5y agonewpipe on android lets you switch to another app or turn off the screen while something is playing also if you tap "background" it will stop the video stream but keep playing the audio, but im not 100% sure does it just pause the video on screen but keeps downloading it, or whether it actually switches to an audio only stream.
- willcipriano 5y agoI'm fairly sure it's just the audio stream. When I have a limited connection the audio stream will work but the video will fail to load.
- jraby3 5y agoThat opinion may be unpopular with YouTube but I absolutely would love it. There is a ton of great content that really doesn’t need video.
- acomjean 5y agoIts not too much of a stretch. Youtube music has an option to turn of video (for music that is video based, live concerts for example).
