It is very clear that the Ukrainian people would much rather be a buffer for NATO, but that doesn't change the fundamental nature of the situation. Recognizing that Putin's interests are the same as ours, just in reverse, is not saying that he is "right." And if you think these fights are irrelevant to ordinary people, you are obviously not thinking it through. What about all of the Russians whose money has just lost 30% of its value? What about all of the Germans who need Russian gas to heat their homes? And the Ukrainians who no longer have homes.
