FTA : "Illustrating his point, he said some ICRC staff had tried to get out of Mariupol along an agreed route on Sunday, but soon realised "the road indicated to them was actually mined"."
So no, the road was not trapped, it was clearly indicated that it is mined.
Moreover, as a deleted post noted, agreements "in principle" are not agreements. So if there's no crystal clear agreement, then no one moves (and puts the blame on negociating parties).
I understand this may sound harsh, but sending people on a road which is not 100% safe is dangerous.
- slindsey 5y agoJust an English clarification. The wording "the road indicated to them was actually mined" would typically be interpreted as 'They were pointed to a road which happened to be mined'. The interpretation of "indicated" in this case is referring to the fact that someone "indicated" the road to them, not that the road somehow "indicated" it was mined (e.g. with signs). The sentence as worded _could_ be interpreted that way but that would not be the typical interpretation and was almost assuredly not the intention from the article.
- wiz21c 5y agoah yep, victim of my own "rosy" glasses :-)
- aaron695 5y agoNo, you were correct, stop being gaslit. Here is what Dominik Stillhart actually says, not the BBC lies - https://twitter.com/BBCr4today/status/1500779527777230852 https://twitter.com/BBCr4today/status/1500779527777230852 Of course the Russians didn't try and mine an escape route. It wasn't an implemented route and it was known to be mined. The English is confusing because the BBC is playing games. You got caught out in the 'word' games, but you were correct. Go google this further in the news, look how the media a propaganda machine, it'll wrap around to the BBC again eventually to even more of a lie. The media doesn't even need to lie for their propaganda here, Russia gives them heaps of material, but it's just so habitual for the media to lie.
