My macOS peeve: truncated file names. You can see the problems in the screenshots in the linked article: Files with visible names like "Screen Shot 2021-07...AM.png" and "Screen Shot 2021-0...AM.png" and "Screen Shot 2021-07...AM.png" (again) and "Screen Shot 2021-07...AM.png". The information distinguishing these files from one another has been replaced by the ellipsis. The same problem exists in iOS. In the Music app, for example, I have playlists in which the list of track titles is something like: Bach Cantata No. ... Bach Cantata No. ... Bach Cantata No. ... Bach Cantata No. ... Bach Cantata No. ... and there’s no way to display the rest of each title. I don’t know how other OSs handle this, but it should be possible to distinguish files from each other at a glance regardless of how long the names are.
