What books would you suggest to beginners who wish to learn programming?
What book/resource would you suggest to budding teenagers who like solving problems and want to learn programming and computer science?
And they want to cover both depth and breadth of CS.

- jstx1 5y agoBook - How to Design Programs - https://htdp.org/2022-2-9/Book/index.html https://htdp.org/2022-2-9/Book/index.html Course - CS50 - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhQjrBD2T382_R182iC2gNZI9HzWFMC_8 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhQjrBD2T382_R182iC2g... Both require no prerequisite knowledge and are very well regarded.
- debanjan16 5y agoHtDP vs the course by Gregor Kiczales? And why HtDP if I may ask?
- jstx1 5y agoIt's not "vs", that course is based on the book. I can see that you've posted a few threads like this one in the past week - in that time you could have made some progress in your learning instead of repeatedly asking where to start.
- brudgers 5y agoHTDP is exactly designed for beginners and the software tooling in the form of Racket is available as a batteries included download. When Kiczales course first came online via Coursera, I took the first live version. It was a great curriculum, but that's an entirely different structure than a book, and with the automation that now infects MOOC's an entirely different structure than a synchronous academic class.
