Ukraine may seek nuclear weapons if left out of NATO (2021)
- aurizon 5y agoNukes are well within the Ukraine's capability, as they probably built many of the Nukes the USSR has. That said, $$ spent on Nukes is a diversion and a waste. Part of the cause of the downfall of the USSR was all that money simply wasted on Nukes and other weapons. (plus the so called elites - I prefer the term 'toads' for their toadyism (I find this a derogation of the beautiful garden toads - which I quite like)) - a class of social parasites pretending to be communists plus the wide spread corruption that permeated their society as the people in power grabbed without limit. We see this endures today in the first and second wave of Oligarchs - the current form of theft from the rest of Russians in general. Nukes will also be a hot point for Russia - it's normal prey is defenceless societies that it can bully = no fun of they have Nukes and can give me a hell of a black eye, so Russia will cry cassus belli again. We now see that cronyism and corruption has riddled Russian weaponry with bad equipment and bad services. A lot of the $$ spent has been simply stolen by the chain of command and the chain is riddled with people placed in command by cronyism versus true capability. Reminds me of the way gentry bought commissions in the British Army back in the 17-18th century - licences to extort the colonies = USA said screw you and left. We see this play out now. Sure Russia can flatten the UK, but the ongoing costs coupled with the collateral damages of sanctions might hobble Russia - unless China sees this as an opening?
- Maursault 5y agoUkraine had a third of the Soviet Union's nukes when it declared independence and the USSR dissolved.[1] Maybe they should have kept a few? [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_and_Ukraine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_and_Ukraine
