The C64 was the first computer I ever owned. I'm thrilled to see people are still finding ways to keep it alive haha.

- dusted 5y agopeople are keeping it alive to a very high degree, replacements for the none-off-the-shelf chips are being designed, multiple revisions of the PCB has been reverse-engineered, and you can order both "faithful" replicas (chose your color too!) or heavily tweaked boards based on the original designs but with various improvements.. Some have gone as far as replacing everything that can be replaced with SMDs. You can get brand-new plastic cases, injection-molded in the original Commodore molds. There are even a fully-mechanical replacement for the keyboard (though, the keycaps, you have to 3D print) How about a pink PCB in a transparent case? https://dusted.dk/pages/c64/MaxFake64/allpics/full/01-MoboInCaseNoChips.jpg https://dusted.dk/pages/c64/MaxFake64/allpics/full/01-MoboIn... Considering the high quality of the VICE emulator, and the availability of the entire machine as FPGA, we're waaaay beyond asking "But whyyy?" the answer is obviously "Because we can!"
