Sanctions against North Korea have resulted in terrible hardship for their people, the cementing of the dictatorship and its total subservience to and reliance on the Chinese Communist Party. Not sure if anything else would have been an option given that China does not want them to open to the west, but you have to wonder if cooperation and help to develop their economy and trade might have resulted in less human suffering.
