There's still time to prevent this risk. Get the Moldovan government to invite a deployment of troops from a NATO country. That is, not joining the alliance - just invite troops. It is better to delay publicizing the invitation after arrival.
This will not be a challenge to Russia - they haven't said anything about Moldova and are rather busy right now, but will be enough to make Putin hesitate to invade. Being busy means he can't respond quickly, by the time deployment is done he'll have to swallow it. Putin will not dare risk a conflict with NATO.
This better be done soon, because otherwise there's a risk that Russia manages to progress too much in Ukraine and will have the ability to respond quickly. Or that Russia makes a move first.

What countries should have definitely have learned from this conflict is that when you are not in NATO, countries in NATO would hesitate to intervene against nuclear power but they most likely will defend everyone who is inside NATO when even single country in NATO is attacked.
