This purported leak from an FSB officer says nuclear war won't happen. Of course, I can't vouch for this but it's food for thought. Nuclear war won't happen because:
1) It would take more than one man (Putin) to launch and not all would agree to a launch
2) There is doubt that the nuclear launch system even works because it is not maintained very well
3) They would refuse to launch because Putin trusts no one, let's no one near him and has no friends. No one wants to die for Putin
4) (my addition) A lot of Russians are opposed to what is happening so Putin doesn't know who will do what he says

- dragonwriter 5y agoThat's a much better argument that “a single nuclear strike directed at a particular target to force capitulation in the war won't occur”, than for “a larger strike will not occur using the diversity of platforms and communications channels major nuclear powers have specifically to assure their strategic nuclear forces are resilient against partial failures in physical infrastructure or intermediary human components between the top commanders are the delivery systems.”

- mwattsun 5y agoI'm pretty sure they're saying that the 4 points I listed are a good argument against a battlefield nuke strike, but much less compelling when it comes time to launch an all out nuclear assault on the United States. Presumably by that time, the battlelines are clearly drawn and it's a fight for survival.
