What's making it worse is Biden's decision to throw away the energy independence we had a year ago, which really puts us in a bind today by making us far more vulnerable to people like Putin. Without those misguided decisions, we would have a lot more leverage with Putin, and a lot less inflation to worry about.
- thechao 5y agoI'm not sure what this means? I haven't tracked energy markets & transportation in a while. I'm not sure how even the US president could affect marginal energy production and transport in a year, outside of starting a war.
- tomohawk 5y agoA year ago, the US was energy independent. One of the first things Biden did was to cancel pipelines, stop all new oil leases, cancel existing projects, etc. This has made us vulnerable to people like Putin because renewables have not been built out to keep our independence. If the idea is to put in place renewable energy, it is unnecessary to prematurely dismantle the existing energy solutions, making us vulnerable to foreign despots in the process. First build out the renewables, then scale back on petroleum as renewables prove their worth.
- willcipriano 5y agoThis woman was appointed by Biden as well: https://mobile.twitter.com/AmericaRising/status/1456607232754388999 https://mobile.twitter.com/AmericaRising/status/145660723275...
- thechao 5y agoHuh. Which operating pipelines did he shut down?
- smt88 5y agoIt's bullshit. Domestic oil production is significantly higher under Biden than any previous president. https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&s=MCRFPUS2&f=M https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&s=M...
- thechao 5y agoI recently showed the WSJ numbers for domestic petrochem production and for spot prices of crude (from 1985 to present) to a guy who then claimed that WSJ is a "leftist rag, pushing a commie liberal agenda". It was an ... eye-opening ... conversation. I hadn't quite believed tgat a fully functional human would just flat out deny facts at that level, outside of religious topics.
