The proof that even the free democracies are slowly falling in a "no-justice" freefall. Sadly.
- clapautius 5y agoECHR (European Court of Human Rights) acknowledged years ago that 'Poland 'helped in CIA rendition', European court rules' (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28460628 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28460628).
- morceauxdebois 5y agoFalling into? When was this supposed golden age of democracy where the US wouldn't suppress evidence of its war crimes and torture?
- cplusplusfellow 5y agoOr evidence of its war crimes and torture against its own citizens, contradicting its own constitutional requirements. We already have despots running the country.
- sneak 5y agoAs far as I can tell, the CIA has operated outside of US law with no real repercussions for its entire history. This is not a new development. The rule of law has always been a sort of aspirational target, not the real state of affairs. All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others. It's not a new idea.
- posterboy 5y agothat's how US became independent in the first place, by conspiracy
- sfe22 5y agoAmerica is not a democracy in the sense of the word (people rule). Unless you only count the about a thousand of actual Americas rulers as people (some judges, some senators, president and a few others). Thats about 0.0003% of the people, far from democracy I would say.
- _-david-_ 5y agoCan you name more than 5 countries that would meet your definition of democracy?
- sfe22 5y agoSwitzerland for example is hybrid regime, since people there have ways to veto actions and laws by tyrants. Still not a democracy but a step in the right direction. I am sure no country has democracy where everyone has a say in actions and laws, rather than a tiny tiny minority (no matter if they were born into it, appointed or “elected”)
