Debug Adapter Protocol
- tux1968 5y agoJust found this tonight, and it seems promising. It's essentially like a LSP language server, except for debugging rather than smart editor features. There are quite a few debug adapters already available: https://microsoft.github.io/debug-adapter-protocol/implementors/adapters/ https://microsoft.github.io/debug-adapter-protocol/implement... Which can be connected from a fair number of clients: https://microsoft.github.io/debug-adapter-protocol/implementors/tools/ https://microsoft.github.io/debug-adapter-protocol/implement...
- TobTobXX 5y agoI've been using the neovim plugin nvim-dap [0] together with nvim-jdtls [1] to get Java hot reload to work. It works without problems. Also, @mfussenegger@github is a quite nice dev, helped me personally to fix some isssues I had while setting it up. - royjacobs 5y agoThis is a pretty decent protocol. I've used it to add support for debugging a C64 application via VICE in my 6502 assembler MOS. [0] The last time I did a deep dive into the protocol it was missing a few features like viewing memory (or, rather, I think it was in the protocol but not really useable in VS Code yet?) but it is a well thought-out protocol overall. The only drawback is that the communication protocol is different from the one used by LSP, it would've been nice if this had been identical. [0] https://mos.datatra.sh https://mos.datatra.sh
- jgerrish 5y agoI like the cut of your jib, 8-bit man. The VICE integration with DAP sounds like a great and fun project to introduce people to the world of embedded development. Cool work.
