The bagel, even in the linked video linked in the article, appears to have been hacked apart by a machete wielding attacker, leaving tufts of bread falling out. There is another way! To do so, cut the bagel just one time (not four), turning the knife around the bagel until the bagel is 180 degrees flipped when the knife returns to the starting position.
