Because Ukraine is neighboring Russia and is of strategic importance in its security considerations.
Once ukraine is in nato russia has no leverage over what kind of arms are deployed there for instance.

- 331c8c71 5y agoThe US cannot blame itself for being irresponsible in Ukraine (because the US is never wrong, not in the moment at least) hence the narrative of Putin being the new Hitler trying to build a new great russia (or similar).
