I have family / friends in Russia and outside Russia and I’m seeing the same thing: Putin is popular. I suspect it had to do with how the Russian identity is build. I keep telling these people that a country is defined by what it does in the world, not by what it is or was. But at the end of the day I think a lot of them consider Russia as a « powerful » country that should have an empire.
