We have and are in a similar situation.
Our setup at the moment is. HSBC Merchant Account, SagePay Gateway and Recurly for recurring billing. Its a lot of middle men and really isn't that great of a solution. I'm just about to setup Barclays EPDQ. It looks good. 3% charge and £10 per month for the privileged.
