Ask HN: Problem with Front-End Web
Back-end developers have to worry only about "code". A good back-end dev writes code that meets spec, passes test and has perhaps has no unexpected side-effects - but maybe last one is a great dev.
Front-end dev have to worry about the code (writing tests, no side-effects, plumbing with all it's quirks) PLUS they have to worry about the VIEW: what people see, every possible device, orientation, layout and the limitless variances thereof with all the quirks and different feature support and just random bugs unique issues you constantly encounter once and never before or again.
So, as a back-end you client is the one who is consuming your code only.
As a front end dev your client is everyone who consumes your code AND everyone who uses the website:
>the dev sitting next to you
>the bored UX designer fidgeting with the UI constantly
>the bored QA randomly checking the page for no reason
>the stakeholders (pm, producers, managers, end users)
I think the same also applies to lesser extent to App developers but with a more consistent and reliable platform - or at least more constrained.
How can I leverage my skills and move into another field. I'm happy to learn a new language but willingness to learn complex maths, algorithms and leet code is at or near zero.
Has anyone done this?
