Resource extraction and usage is harmful, we do have many energy-inefficiencies that I for one would love to see fixes. However, that doesn’t excuse cryptocurrencies wasting egregious amounts of energy on top of those inefficiencies. By its design, it’s antithetical to serious energy and performance optimisations (e.g. won’t do away with mindless hashing, so their TPS will be lower by definition) so even if we are able to drastically improve the energy efficiency and minimise the environmental harm of our resource extraction and processing, crypto currencies will still have the worst efficiency.
