I'm not sure what Musk is on about here though with respect to the USA, I don't think they are reliant on Russian fossil fuel exports to a meaningful extent, it's just that the fossil fuels have a market price that is reflecting their insecurity. Reliance on fossil fuels for bulk energy is now a high risk gamble. If we increase CO2 emissions now, then we are likely to cause ecological damage which will take longer to recover from than nuclear war.
