Pre-infection vitamin D3 levels association with severity of Covid-19 illness
- avidiax 5y agoThis was one of the likely explanations for why the homeless weren't dying of COVID, despite obviously unsanitary conditions and unhealthy lifestyles. They spend so much time outside that they naturally have good vitamin D levels.
- voldacar 5y agoFrom the perspective of your immune system's cells, what exactly does the vitamin D molecule do?
- explodingman 5y ago> From the perspective of your immune system's cells, what exactly does the vitamin D molecule do? Probably nothing. High vitamin D levels are a side effect of being outdoors a lot and therefore getting more exercise than the deskbound population. I recall during lockdown listening to a Slate Star Codex article (on the Astral Codex Ten podcast) which went through a stack of papers and concluded that there was nothing to see here. The article should be retitled "Pre-Infection exercise levels associated with severity of Covid-19 illness".
- explodingman 5y agoCorrection: the Astral Codex article gives a 25% chance that vitamin D might do you good. https://astralcodexten.substack.com/p/covidvitamin-d-much-more-than-you?s=r https://astralcodexten.substack.com/p/covidvitamin-d-much-mo...
- peakaboo 5y agoIt's not like this was discussed 2 years ago on "conspiracy" channels or anything.... /s I stil remember the "horse dewormer" propaganda about ivermectin.
- syeare 5y agosome people never really believed that ivermectin was a horse wormer after reading that its been in use as an antiviral agent for ages, but can you explain what you mean by propaganda to someone who does not follow mainstream news networks (e.g. fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc.) and instead prefers independent media (i.e podcasts, disclose.tv, project veritas, etc)?
- peakaboo 5y agoIf you search on "horse dewormer", you should be able to find lots of mainstream articles ridiculing it, and also Joe Rogan was made fun of a lot for using it instead of vaccines. If you can't find it on Google, maybe you need to use Duckduckgo or even better, sign up for Kagi search beta. :)
- tinus_hn 5y agoYet the answer was to force people indoors where their vitamin d levels go down.
- dzhiurgis 5y agois it even possible to be vitamin deficient with western diet?
- 0xdeadb00f 5y agoWith Vitamin D specifically I think the answer is yes.
