        Posting on HN will make zero difference towards stopping the war. Deviating from the guidelines however will make HN less pleasant and less useful. From what I have seen, dang doesn't immediately reach for the ban-hammer.

        The rules aren't relaxed. Please review the guidelines, including this one: "Comments should get more thoughtful and substantive, not less, as a topic gets more divisive." https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html The reason the rules haven't changed is that the reason for the rules hasn't changed: we don't want this forum to burn itself to the ground. What good would that do anyone?

But please don't group all accusations into this bucket -- take a look at OP's comment history, they do have a tendency to make these kind of comments.
