This was a nice fun read! This is almost how adding, subtracting numbers is taught in schools here. I didn't notice this pattern when was a kid (if this was the pattern back then) but after having sat down with both my kids I can see the pedagogy clearer. This actually inspired me to keep up with the literature the kids have to go through when they are learning math. I am a little surprised that I find it so enjoyable. There are methods I completely forgot and methods I can grasp easily and add to my existing knowledgebase.. There is always something to learn, even if it is elementary!
