I feel like the whole 'docs' angle of this story is kind of a distraction. The bottom line (IMHO) is that reasonable coworkers, with a reasonable interest in coming to an amicable decision quickly, will not engage in this kind of behaviour. The anti-social person can be the consumer of the docs, or the producer of the docs. In both cases they will find a way to pick a fight. The important thing is for the reasonable person to learn to recognize what is reasonable behaviour, and not fall into the trap of making protracted concessions in a futile attempt to be reasonable themself.
