iPhone vs. Android: How to choose the best smartphone for you
- olliej 5y agoThere are plenty of reasons to complain apple iOS devices, but this article is pushing some really dubious issues to try and be "fair" at all costs: > "When Apple releases a new update or patch, all phones — those that are still supported, anyway — get it" The backhanded "still supported" is clearly phrased to imply that that is a restricted set - apple ships updates to phones that are 5+ years old, whereas the high end google android devices seem to get 3 years of coverage. > Price \n This is an easy one: iPhones are expensive. If you are going to make this claim you have to compare like-for-like. Correct, Apple does not make low end devices, but to compare an iPhone SE to a budget android device isn't a fair comparison. An iPhone SE is "expensive" if it costs more for the same functionality and performance, and to my knowledge the SE compares favorably to similarly priced Android devices. At the high end of course you're paying for cachet (but if you're buying a $1k phone/year I suspect that's more important than any other factor, and you've got more money than sense. Things like these points come across as trying too ensure android doesn't lose on any individual point which calls into question the bias in other sections. Which is dumb and unnecessary as the other things are perfectly reasonable (4) to my knowledge google's assistant is better than Siri by most accounts but I don't use either, (7) who doesn't love dongles? :D (11) There was a period where Apple phones had superior cameras but I think they've been behind Samsung for a few years at this point. For cloud storage I have never had a problem with iCloud storage, and I have much more trust in apple not trying to monetize the content (and apple clearly puts much more effort into minimizing the content that they can decrypt in general than google does), but I'm perfectly happy to believe Google's cloud systems are more reliable (encrypting content makes syncing harder as people would generally prefer delta updates, which by design crypto makes harder)
