The problem with a creative endeavor is that the quality is often (though not always) tied to the creator's interest/passion towards the project. If he hasn't finished Alcatraz yet, maybe he doesn't want to, or maybe he's hit some kind of writer's block for it. I guess the question would be: if he writes a book solely out of obligation and his heart is no longer in it, do you really want the end product?
