Ford Creates Separate EV, Gas-Engine Divisions in Major Overhaul
- yuppie_scum 5y agoIn Phoenix Project terms, they are trying to create a swat team outside the confines of the usual bureaucracy. I don’t think they necessarily had to do it, but worst case it ends up turning into Mercury 2.0. They can always fold it back in.
- rmason 5y agoI am not certain this is such a great idea. I believe the CEO's thinking is the Ford EV stock would zoom up allowing him to borrow more money. But imagine working at the gas powered division, morale would be low and you'd lose all your best people to other car companies so they could land a job with a real future.
- jdsully 5y agoYou’d already feel that now even without a seperate division. Ultimately the needs of developing ICE power trains and platforms are a lot different than those of electric. There isn’t much that can be shared except styling which Ford already does across divisions. Even in the transmission the torque and gearing requirements are dramatically different.
- hedora 5y agoI can't imagine they're putting any money into R&D on the gas engine side, but they still have service obligations, and will want to milk it for every penny they can. Separating out the business they're intentionally scuttling makes perfect sense. I hope they're paying hazard pay to the people on that side of the company.
