People thought cooler heads would prevail leading up to the Cuban missile crisis, "nuclear war isn't rational". It didn't play out that way and instead we came wayyy too close. A few world leaders have a button. If any of them press it, the world ends. Our job is to make sure they don't. Probably makes sense to get rid of the button too... It's rational to be worried about such a situation.
