Bungie rejects Steam Deck’s Linux, threatens to ban Destiny 2 players there
- sschueller 5y agoSteam deck seems to be greatest thing for gamers since a long time. If they can get the software problems resolved this finally brings back what has been missing for a long time. [1] [1] https://youtu.be/kXIOuUUZO2s https://youtu.be/kXIOuUUZO2s
- peanut_worm 5y agoWhats so great about it? Seems like it is just a laptop in a different form factor.
- 1MachineElf 5y agoNot needing a desk to relax and comfortably play Half Life and Bethesda games on Linux seems is pretty valuable to me at least.
- kradeelav 5y agoIf the Switch has taught me anything, I play 95% of those games and hours in bed because it's nice to chill there. It'll be very lovely to have a whole game catalog (with longevity to boot) that isn't Nintendo-locked and be able to do the same.
- chaorace 5y agoYou've hit the nail on the head. The basic appeal arises from hitting the triple point of performance, cost, and portability. Much of the nerdier crowd is also excited about the consequences of the device becoming popular. The Deck might push the PC gaming Linux usershare past the critical mass necessary for real first-party support.
- DiabloD3 5y agoNot seeing an issue, Steam can just drop Bungie for TOS violations.
- josephcsible 5y agoIMO, if a game requires a connection to a central server to play, and you get banned from it, you should be entitled to a full refund, plus interest, regardless of the circumstances or legitimacy of the reason for the ban.
- Epiphany21 5y agoIt would be better to have server side tools released to host a personal instance of a given game. Too many games become lost forever when the companies stop hosting them. People who get banned could just pay AWS or something to host their own games.
- josephcsible 5y agoI agree. My hope is that companies would then actually do what you described to avoid having to pay all of those refunds.
