There might be ways to bypass clod-flare. A SYN-flood attack directly at the servers, bypassing cloudflare might work.
The servers they protect also need to connect to something else. For example a bit-coin server, if isolated from other bit-coin servers is useless. So a SYN-flood DDNS attack on all bit-coin servers with the return IP being the real targets would force the other bit-coin servers to black-list the target, effectively taking them off-line.
