The email encryption tools available are not ergonomic or easy to set-up and maintain. It presents a steep learning curve that requires special plugins or email clients / search tools as the giants don’t have good support for it. I have a feeling that Gmail could virtually single-handedly make E2E email encryption a standard practice with good UX, but they would rather be able to read your email.
