I think the last point in the article is super interesting and under-discussed here - now that academics and engineers have a wealth of free core IP, will we see more open development in the EDA space? Yosys and the ecosystem around it certainly points this direction, but there's a LOT to the EDA space. Are universities pursuing academic EDA development, too?
