Android is great but this line is unfortunately SO true. It's especially noticable on a tablet.
I tried Dolphin instead and it's awesome. One feature I particularly like is that you can change the User-Agent header between Desktop/Ipad/Android. Now I don't have to rely on websites to determine what content I get, I can decide for myself thank-you-very-much. This should be a standard feature in all browsers.
- nodata 15y ago> Now I don't have to rely on websites to determine what content I get Do you expect normal users to switch user agents so that a website will work for them?
- philbarr 15y agoIf they knew the benefits of doing that, they'd learn. My wife did when I showed her. Now she knows what to do when she sees a website and thinks, "that's not what it looks like on my laptop".
- nodata 15y agoSo instead of a website being fixed every user should learn how to switch user agents to work around it?
- bad_user 15y agoOn Android I'm using Firefox Mobile -- it still has some quirks, but they are rapidly improving. Compared to the standard browser, Firefox has an UI that does not suck and feels faster. It also has add-ons, but I haven't tried any of them yet. It can also sync to your Firefox browser on your desktop, fetching your history, your bookmarks, your saved forms data and so on. That data is encrypted on their servers so as far as privacy goes, it's OK. Plus, whenever using Firefox you're helping the Mozilla foundation to earn more money, which makes it a win-win for everybody.
- abrowne 15y agoHopefully the Android browser continues to become more and more like Chrome, since development on the two is starting to converge: https://lists.webkit.org/pipermail/webkit-dev/2011-August/017738.html https://lists.webkit.org/pipermail/webkit-dev/2011-August/01... [edit: typo]
